Decisions at the 7th European Strategy Session of Council

SEVENTH EUROPEAN STRATEGY SESSION OF COUNCIL

SCIENTIFIC SECRETARY' REPORT

The Council took note of the information provided by the Scientific Secretary, Professor Stapnes.

  • The EU FP7 project calls expected end of July for Integrating Activities, where infrastructures for future detector R&D is a relevant topic, and Preparatory Phase projects, where one project in the European Strategy for Particle Physics may be included.
  • A workshop on the non-neutron scattering physics opportunities at the European Spallation Source is planned towards the end of 2009
  • A possible model for sustained accelerator R&D in Europe is being developed, and it will be presented in the September European Strategy Session of Council.
  • The progress and plans towards a Technical Design Report for the SuperB project at Frascati will be presented and discussed in the September European Strategy Session on Council
     

PROJECTS RELEVANT FOR THE EUROPEAN STRATEGY FOR PARTICLE PHYSICS

The Council took note of the content and format of document, of the procedure followed in its preparation, notably the extensive upstream involvement of the Scientific Policy Committee, of the oral presentation by the Scientific Secretary and of the variety of views expressed during the discussion. The Council further took note that a first draft of the Red Book of Recognised Experiments, not intended for full circulation, would be made available before the Council week in September 2009.

The Council took note of the oral presentation by Professor Petronzio.

 

PREPARATION FOR THE NEXT FALC MEETING

Participation in FALC by the Russian Federation

The Council took note of the statement by the representative of the Russian Federation, Mr A. Petrov.
 

Items coming up in the July FALC meeting

The Council took note of the draft agenda for the forthcoming meeting of FALC in Quebec on 13 July 2009 and of the additional information provided by Professor Wade on the forthcoming meeting of the FALC Resources Group.

 

FOLLOW-UP ON THE MoU WITH THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION

The Council took note of the information provided by the President on the European Commission’s approval of the draft Memorandum of Understanding between CERN and the Commission and on the formal signing ceremony, scheduled for 17 July 2009, and of the statements by delegations.

 

CONFIRMATION OF ACCESS STATUS FOR COUNCIL DOCUMENTS

The Council agreed to restrict access to the document tabled under Item 8 of the Agenda and to confirm the access status of all the other documents, as shown on the Agenda.
